Florida residents are now able to save on supplies useful in a hurricane. Starting May 28 begins the first day of the 2022 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, which will run for a full two weeks until June 10.
Notably, for the first time ever, tax savings now include pet supplies enabling Floridians keep their household animals safe. Eligible items include pet food, can openers, collars, leashes, muzzles, pet waste bags, litter boxes, pet beds, carriers month other items.
Other standard disaster preparation items Floridians can save on include:
- Reusable ice packs
- Batteries and weather radios
- Flashlights and lanterns
- Bungee cords, tarps and tie-downs
- Coolers and portable power banks
- Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers
- Portable generators used to provide light or communications, or to preserve food in a power outage.

Forecasters predict this hurricane season is likely to be an above average season. The Atlantic Hurricane Season starts next week, June 1st, and continues through November 30th.
